We're Here!!!

I'm in Raleigh, NC!

Its been a while since I've written, due to lack of the internet, which I still don't have, but I'm picking up a signal from one of my neighbors right now, and it comes and goes.

I have lots of pictures to post from my trek across country, but they will have to come another time. It was a long journey, and West Virginia was by far the worst state, but I will write more about it all later.

I just wanted to post a quick update letting everyone know I'm here! The bugs are terrible in the southeast, as well as the heat. It's not so much hot as it is terribly muggy. THe birds and bugs together along with the humidity make you feel like you are in a tropical jungle or rainforest. The bees are the size of my thumb, and like to dive bomb your head, but I'm told they are "non-agressive" unless you bug them. (Yeah right.) There's cockroach problems in the entire state, but I guess if you are clean you don't have to worry about them too much. There's these bugs that are locusts I think that are the size of a tube of lipstick. And they make really loud buzzing noises. And the spiders are very VERY fast.

The only bug I've seen that looks like the ones in Oregon are the sugar ants, and I was hoping that I'd finally be somewhere where they were non-existent. Thank god for tupperware! All of our food, sugar, rice, anything opened has been placed into tupperware containers in hopes to keep our townhouse bug free. An exterminator comes once every other month and sprays inside our house, and I guess they spray the outside once a month, but from what I've heard bugs are very PREVALENT in this darn city.

The other thing that really sucks is the prices of food. The "cheap" store we were told to go to turned out being more like a Safeway, which has good deals but all in all not realy that affordable to your average college student. I don't understand how this state can have high sales taxes and a really low minimum wage, and have food so expensive. The first night we were here we went to a place called Harris Teeter, and man....talk about spendy/trendy. It was awful. I am missing Winco more and more everyday.....

Rick starts school on Thursday, he got moved from a teaching assistant to a research assistant, which is very impressive. I'm proud of him. A research assistant is much more prestigious than a teaching assistant, and the project they have assigned him too could turn out to be a PhD thesis.

I will write more later, when this darn internet keeps booting me off!!

Sincerely,
Kailey

That JUST Happened!

Ahhh. I am finally all packed. Minus a few miscellaneous items and some clothes, everything is boxed and ready to go. Now I just need to throw a lot of the trash away, clean out the fridge and freezer, that sort of thing. But! I'm pretty much done!

Rick's parents came down yesterday to help me out, which I really appreciate. They have moved 18 times in the past 20 years, and are pretty good at packing stuff, so we really got everything into a minimal amount of space. I am so glad they could come help, I was going a little bit crazy myself trying to figure out how to pack everything!

Friday, my car battery died. Luckily, Uncle Mark came up from Harrisburg to help me fix it. We had to put a whole new battery in the car. I don't know what I'm going to do next year if I have car troubles, being so far away from all of my family. I guess I am just going to have to learn some car mechanics so I can take care of it myself!

Last night, I went out to Chinese food with Paige and David, and then we went and watched Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Oh man that movie was hillarious!! Wellll worth seeing it in theaters, I was literally laughing out loud during most of the movie. It also takes place in North Carolina, which I guess I kind of got to see what the countryside looks like. But man! If you liked Anchorman, you will LOVE this movie. It is so funny! But, Will Ferrel is one of my favorite actors, so I guess I may be a little biased. :P

This Cracks Me UP!!!!!

Anyways....
Moving Sunday. Packing everything up and taking off! We are staying the night in The Dalles Sunday, and then driving to Salt Lake City Monday to stay with Rick's aunt. From there, I do not know our itenerary or where we will be staying each night. It all depends on how far we get in a day!

Sincerely,
Kailey Christine

I'll Always Hold Piano Music Close in my Heart

I think this woman is amazingly talented and she has a beautiful voice.

I'm going to learn this song on the piano.

The song is called "Samson" and the artist is Regina Spektor.

Packing....packing...and yep you guessed it...packing

Well, I only have about 12 days until I'm officially moving!

I went home this past weekend and visited Mom and Dad. On the way, I stopped to say hello to Nanny and Grandpa, and wish Grandpa a Happy Birthday. I stayed for quite a while, until Sirius, my kitty, who I had brought along for the ride started getting a little noisy, and I needed to hit the road again.

I got to visit with old friends, Heidi, Kayla, Ciara, Christine, Greg, and I even briefly saw Chester! But I only got to see him for a few minutes. He got a new car and was off making the rounds, showing everyone. It's really nice!

I also went to the Myrtle Creek Summer Fest, and watched the fireworks with Bobby and Heidi, Christine and Greg, Cheryl, and Paige even ended up coming down! I even got to hang out with Donald for a while, whom I haven't seen in what seems like forever and a half. Katrina came and hung out with us for a while too. It was great!! :)

This picture makes me laugh. Mom posted it on her blog as well.

Had a blast at home with Mom, Dad and Paige. We mostly made fun of Dad :P We just sat around, drank slurpees, and dipped our feet in the pool (it was surprisingly chilly!) while we listened to the neighbors loud oldies music, and someone trying to sing, while attempting to demolish (er..."re-landscape") their yard. (They succeeded.....)

Other than that, things have been fairly quiet. Still packing, the more and more I pack the more and more junk I realize I have. I've been getting rid of a lot, mostly giving it to Paige, but theres a lot of stuff I'm going to see if I can sell it on craigslist.

I'll be back in Myrtle Creek sometime next weekend, maybe this weekend. I will be back next weekend for sure, because Kayla is getting married! And that is something I cannot miss.

Hopefully I will get to see everyone before I get ready to leave!!

Sincerely,
Kailey Christine
